This program surveys a range of computer/electronics vocations: computer programming, robotics, computer graphics (illustration and photography), basic electronics, basic fiber optics communications, troubleshooting and repair on a modular level, local area networking, and Internet technology. Each student chooses one of these areas for focused vocational training and practice. Working in our modern laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment, students gain theoretical and hands-on experience with advanced computers and software, test equipment, electronic components, and diagnostic tools and procedures. Student course work may include, as appropriate to the focus area: building robotic machines, writing programs, computer photography and illustration, digital darkroom techniques, 3D animation, digital video, constructing electronic circuits, assembling and testing working computers, designing and constructing a working network, maintaining an Internet server, and building a functional fiber optics communications system. In all of these subject areas, a strong emphasis is placed on self-motivation, problem-solving, and creative inventiveness.
