This program provides the classroom theory and driving experience required by the Maine State Department of Motor Vehicles and the Professional Truck Drivers Institute (PTDI) to qualify a driver to sit for the Commercial Truck Driver Class A license (CDL) test.
The major areas of study include: a thorough in-depth knowledge of the PTDI text "Trucking - Tractor Trailer Driver Handbook," classroom instruction in subject matter related to Class A driving, laboratory exercises covering tractor trailer maintenance, repair industry technology and small business training, behind the wheel-range and behind the wheel-road driving time.
Requirements: Students must have documented proof of good health and driving record. The student will also possess a developed sense of career goals, adequate academic preparation and subject schedules that support graduation plans. Students will go through an application and interview process to enter this program.
Seventeen-year-old students must complete a drivers' education course prior to enrolling. Eighteen-year-old students may enroll in the CDL program, but must complete a drivers' education course before sitting for the CDL test.
